Hofstra completed this “Water Is Life” installation in which he painted the Het Moleneind road in Drachten, Holland a bright blue. He used about 4000 liters of paint to form an urban river reminiscent of the waterway that used to run where the road is now.

This environmental art is a memorial to nature and also introduces an awe-inspiring appreciation of the street as a newly seen urban space which is often overlooked due to its mundane contribution to its surroundings. Hofstra’s project also touches on the road as a timely piece of the landscape with limits on the length of time it will remain in tact before man or nature has an impact on its new form.
